Will Mary-Kate Olsen Design Her Own Wedding Dress? Three Looks That Prove She Can Definitely Design Bridal

Updated

We know there’s one major wedding dress on everyone’s mind right now (hi, Kim Kardashian), but there’s more celeb bridal buzz circulating that’s pretty exciting. Mary-Kate Olsen might be designing her own dress.

“I’m not even there yet,” she told WWD when asked about selecting a gown for her upcoming nuptials to Olivier Sarkozy. “I think it may be a matter of getting five or six, or making two or three and being stressed out. That seems kind of far away. We’ll take one step at a time.”

Mary-Kate and her twin sister Ashley Olsen are the design duo behind The Row and Elizabeth and James — so we decided to look back at three different looks from their two labels that prove Mary-Kate has shown plenty of design potential for a bridal gown (we already know they’re just her style).

A Formal Affair: The gorgeous white gown by The Row, worn by Ashley to the 2009 Met Gala, shows how well The Row can do gowns. Both Olsens love to experiment with excess fabric, and we don’t picture Mary-Kate in an over-the-top bridal number. A voluminous white shift like this one is probably the closest the bride-to-be will ever get to a traditional ballgown.

A Boho Soirée: Younger sister Elizabeth Olsen (who is also engaged!) wore this embroidered lace design from The Row to the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, and it screams outdoor wedding — possibly in some Parisian gardens. All that’s needed? A floral crown. Plus, a look like this would complement her vintage diamond-and-sapphire engagement ring really well.

A Courthouse Union: For a more intimate ceremony, Mary-Kate might consider designing a simple white dress. This Elizabeth and James “Theon” look (recently spotted on Debby Ryan) features a coated eyelet material that has a casual bridal feel.
