Zendaya Coleman, actress, singer and DWTS runner-up: I’ve been traveling a ton lately promoting my new album, and minus the jet lag, it¹s been a blast. I just recently performed in Jamaica, and getting to sing for the crowd and hearing them sing “Replay” right back to me was so surreal. I just love how music can bond people from all different walks of life.
From Jamaica I headed straight to New York for Fashion Week, and with all this packing and unpacking, I’ve got to have a purse that is both functional and fashionable. I¹m obsessed with my Rebecca Minkoff “Zach” convertible backpack. It’s so cool but practical. I love it because it’s not really big, but it holds so much.
I like to stuff a lot into my bag so I’m always prepared. I never go anywhere without some kind of chocolate, my Carmex lip balm and a bottle of hairspray, and this backpack is chic but still totally up to the task. Rebecca actually gifted me the bag too, which makes it even more special to me!
Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: So I may or may not be going to a super-fancy black tie event that I may or may not have found out about yesterday and I may or may not be completely freaking out about what to wear. All of my long gowns were last worn either in the gym of New Trier High School in 2004 or in somebody’s wedding photos — and obviously neither really works for a truly fancy black tie soiree.
So of course I Rented the Runway (these are the two I got) but because I’m a total drama queen and need options, I took advantage of Shopbop’s huge sale today and got this Joanna August cap-sleeve gown in black. It’ll look good with jewelry I already have, and at 25% off (oh yeah, I added a necklace and earrings plus two sizes of the dress for good measure to get me to that $500 discount) I didn’t feel as guilty about the splurge.
Stay tuned to find out what dress I end up wearing, or if I just melt down in a pool of chiffon and attend the event in my bathrobe.

Bronwyn Barnes, Senior Editor: I’m a fashion minimalist. I see a well-tailored shift dress in a neutral color, and I think ‘disciplined elegance.’ But my preference for simple, streamlined pieces isn’t just a matter of aesthetics. I have a dark secret: I can’t layer to save my life. To compensate for this shortcoming, most days I pare down the process of getting dressed to two easy steps: pick a dress, put it on. My signature uniform works for me, but there are times when I long to wear separates … and not look like a pile of laundry.
That’s why I just ordered this Tory Burch “Alexandria” top. The striped cotton tee, with its faux-shirt hem and Peter Pan collar, makes the layered look effortless, even for me. It also takes care of the problem of mixing patterns, another one of my sartorial weaknesses. I just pull it over my head and voila, a polished effect that isn’t the least bit sloppy or forced. Heads up, skirts and tailored trousers that hang unworn in my closet: You’re getting added back into the rotation this spring.
