When Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were forced to cancel their spring/summer 2011 show in New York due to last minute sample delays, they simply said ‘c’est la vie’ and presented in the chic French capital of Paris instead. The famously private duo summed up their collection to U.K.’s Elle this weekend: “We wanted to concentrate on tailored pieces,” they said at Sunday’s appointment-only presentation on the fashionable Left Bank. “The Row is named after Savile Row and refined minimal luxury is what this is all about. Like the trousers suit,” they explained, referring to their exquisitely tailored, but feminine pant suits presented in white and blush pink, paired with silk separates. Before the show, the two sisters discussed the ethos of their brand, which they launched in 2007, and the foundations behind it. “I think we became perfectionists at such a young age, so for us the fit is so important,” explains Ashley in a sneak peek video in association with Microsoft’s Bing. Inspired by their own tastes and what silhouettes they want to create is the starting point of any collection but the style-savvy sisters know the importance of staying true to their customer. So who is this woman? “An educated woman, a woman that understands fit and what they like and what’s easy to wear,” says Ashley. –Monique Jessen
