Tina Fey's Greatest Challenge as an Actress 'Is Just Getting Older'

Aging is not easy! Celebrities know it, including Tina Fey. The talented, funny star of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, now 45, tackles that hot-button topic, as well as women’s bodies, spoofing Sarah Palin and more in her menswear-inspired cover for Town & Country’s April issue. (She’s wearing Polo Ralph Lauren on the cover, by the way.)

“The greatest challenge for me as an actress is just getting older,” Fey, 45, tells the magazine. “Trying to play the scene at hand while also trying to hold your face up. Fast-forward to being 68, and it’s a glorious act of bravery … There were people on the Globes in their twenties who were so Botoxed. In their twenties! We’ve been so conditioned now to never see a real human face, one that moves, with its original teeth. Sometimes we forget that there is a choice. I choose not to do this. It’s like wearing multiple pairs of Spanx: Good for you, not for me. Not mandatory.”

Speaking of Spanx, you may recall her bit last year to celebrate David Letterman’s final show where she stripped down to just her Spanx, a joke she expected would garner a laugh, not a controversy. “I purposely wore three or four layers of Spanx underneath [my skintight dress], including those terrible nude-colored ones, because as I crafted the bit I didn’t want people to think I was trying to look good,” she said. “And some reacted that it was not good for women because I wasn’t fat enough under there. You cannot win.”

Good thing is she doesn’t have to try to win at anything — she’s already winning everything in our eyes. Her newest film, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, hits theaters March 4, and in the past year alone, she hosted one of the funniest Golden Globes to date, reprised her role on Weekend Update and her Sarah Palin character for SNL, and did a press tour for
wearing one increasingly smoking look after the next. The Fey can not be stopped.
