Shailene Woodley's Divergent Screening Jean Shorts: Cute or Way Too Casual?

For many starlets, one of the major perks of “making it” is all the pretty clothes and jewelry that come their way — both for premieres and just for fun. For Shailene Woodley, 22, getting gussied up for the red carpet is the least fun part of her job. Day-to-day, she wears no makeup and used clothing exclusively, though she understands why she can’t do that while promoting a film.

“If I was to show up wearing my five-toe shoes, my Melodia organic leggings and some hippie top, no one is going to take me seriously,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “When I go on a red carpet, I’m Shailene, but I’m also Shailene representing a movie.” She reiterated the sentiment to Into the Gloss recently, saying, “For me, to show up to something like Live with Kelly and Michael with Converse on and no makeup would be disrespectful.”

So we were more than a little surprised to see her at a Thousand Oaks, Calif. screening of her upcoming film Divergent in flip flops, a sheer tank, ripped cutoffs and sunglasses on her head. On the one hand, the screening was hosted by Woodley to support her charity All It Takes, so we understand the impulse to want to dress her way at her own event.

On the other hand, as she herself has said, she’s a representative of the movie and is expected to be dressed as such. There’s comfortable, and then there’s “I just walked in from tanning in my backyard,” and the latter doesn’t fly at most work places. With a slightly more professional look (like jeans and a dressier sandal) the clothes wouldn’t be distracting from her worthy message.

We’re torn between giving her a pass for supporting a good cause and wanting to send her home to change into something more work-appropriate. Since we’re split, vote in the poll below and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
