Khloé Kardashian on How She Handled the 'Fat Sister' Label, Her Split from Lamar and More

With her new book, Strong Looks Better Naked making best seller lists, a weight-loss television show in the works, and of course, her new fitness-driven lifestyle, Khloé Kardashian has become a major inspiration for living your best life. So it’s no surprise that she’s now partnering with the Live Chin Up Movement to encourage a positive, healthy being — and she just shared exactly how she stays motived every day. Here, five life lessons we learned from the star during a panel discussion in N.Y.C. Thursday.

1. Don’t let anything get in your way
“My book is all about strength, mind, body and soul,” she shared with the audience, adding, “I started taking all these things that were once a negative and turning them into positives, and that’s also why I’m so positive about the Live Chin Up Movement, because it’s something that speaks so truly to me about ‘Don’t let these negative things get in your way.'”

2. Turn negatives into positives
“I’m all about taking every day and putting a positive twist on it,” she advises. “I’ve learned so much from all the negatives in my life and made them all positives and I try not to let every bad thing make me have a bad day. I try to laugh at the future instead of being stuck in it.”

3. It’s never too late to turn your life around
Growing up in the media, Khloé was constantly compared to her sisters, but that’s no longer. “I have changed my life — I used to just accept the way people defined me,” she admits. “When people called me the fat sister, I’d say, ‘Yeah I’m big boned.’ Whatever we do to laugh at things instead of [letting] them hurt you. And then I slowly but surely took something really bad in my life or a stressful time which was my divorce, and I turned it into a positive.”

4. Find an outlet that can change you
“I started using the gym as my stress reliever, and I did not think that I could ever be fit, she shares. “I really was just content with who I was and I never felt uncomfortable — I just always thought that was who I was. And then I started working out and as a byproduct of me finding an emotional release, I started losing weight. And I was like, ‘Ok I’m gonna now take this a little more seriously, I’m going to go to the gym more with a trainer, and I’m going to learn more about healthy eating tips, and I started making it a lifestyle”

5. Surround yourself with positive energy
We’re well aware of the tight-knit bond that Khloé shares with her family — and according to her, it’s truly important. “I just love surrounding myself with family and friends and things that motivate you, she says. “Surround yourself by people who take you for who you are and whatever personal choices you want to make.”
