In a matter of years, fashion label Balmain has gone from a stuffy, old-guard Parisian house to the hot, new design favorite of every major celebrity the world over. A quick glance through the #BalmainArmy roster will show the name of just about every Kardashian, Instagram it-girl, and red carpet mainstay in Hollywood. So of course, for their Fall/Winter 2016 collection, the runway show didn’t just feature a FROW packed full of A-list stars, but a runway as well, including brand favorites, models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid who surprised everyone with a last-minute hair color swap.
Not only are Kendall and Gigi modeling BFFs (look no further than yesterday’s Vogue fashion week video for further proof of that), but they’ve also become the unofficial Betty and Veronica of the fashion industry. In other words, each are the archetypal blonde and brunette of (super)modeling, which is what made both besties opening the show wearing each others hair color of choice all the more shocking.

Not that both girls don’t look amazing in their temporary new locks. Gigi is chanelling her sister Bella’s dark glamour, while Kendall, who closed the show in addition to opening it, is living out all of Kim‘s Paris Fashion Week blonde ambitions.
Let’s just hope Kendall’s flaxen hair doesn’t become a constant considering the tragedies bleach has already inflicted on her poor brows.

But Kendall wasn’t the only one who switched up her beauty look today, pretty much every model who came down the runway had hair the polar opposite of their everyday color. Most notably Jourdan Dunn, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who went from beach babe to dark mahogany, Joan Smalls, and Alessandra Ambrosio‘s platinum tresses.
And of course, even when Kim Kardashian isn’t physically there, her presence is still very much felt. Especially when “She’s the source, the whole collection is based on Kim!” at least according to her husband Kanye West, who was sitting front row today. Which raises an interesting question: In the world of KimYe, are any collections not based on one of them?
