When Kate Mara cut her hair short earlier this summer, we had a feeling she might get a little scissors-happy and go even shorter. And she delivered almost immediately, rocking a choppy, piecey pixie for her Fantastic Four press tour. We’re loving it, but is everyone else in her life?
Kelly Ripa had similar questions about the look when Mara appeared on Live With Kelly and Michael Tuesday morning. First of all: Is the style more work or less than her formerly long locks? “Oh, less!” Mara said. “I don’t have to wash it now, I don’t have to brush it. I love it.”
Ripa agreed, then asked how others have reacted to it. “I got a lot of nice things,” she said, but “I got one sort of negative thing said to me. I text messaged my dad the other day saying I miss you, and his response was, I miss your hair. So, thanks Dad!” (For the uninitiated, her dad is a big deal on the New York Giants scouting staff, and her sister, Rooney Mara, is no stranger to bold hair looks either.)
L’Oréal Paris hairstylist Mara Roszak tells PEOPLE that the inspiration for Mara’s cute crop is, well, Mara herself. “A pixie is something that is a major decision to do; the person has to be prepared, and she immediately owned it,” Roszak says. “She has such beautiful bone structure and features, so I knew going pixie would be perfect on her. It’s something she’s always wanted to do and the response has been amazing.”
