Jennifer! Kate! Amy! See the Best Oscars Dress Changes of the Night

Updated

We’ve always wondered something about Oscars night: Where do the stars go to make their quick outfit changes from show gowns to afterparty dresses. Seriously, is there a special meeting place? A hotel suite somewhere? A bathroom? Backstage meet-up spot? (It sounds like the makings for a reality show!) Regardless, they always manage to flawlessly transition into new looks.

You already know the PEOPLE StyleWatch editors’ best dressed picks from the main event. Now, catch the most noteworthy gown switch-ups below (all from the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty), vote on your favorite and share any thoughts in the comments.

Kate Hudson gave editors the cape moment we were waiting for thanks to the bolero on her custom Atelier Versace gown. Plus, the crazy plunging neckline made the liquid silver dress an instant favorite. Later, Hudson switched into an equally statement-making Zuhair Murad design with illusion detailing and intricate black beading.

We saw two very different sides of Jennifer Lawrence Sunday night: The mature Oscar nominee who went for a sophisticated red Christian Dior gown with peplum detailing at the waist (teamed with more than $3 million in diamonds!) and the fun-loving 23-year-old actress who isn’t afraid to show some leg in a heavily-embellished Tom Ford mini dress. However, the verdict is still out on those swept-back strands.

A collective silence settled in the PEOPLE newsroom when Lupita Nyong’o stepped on the carpet looking like a goddess in her long pleated Prada gown, which she called “Nairobi blue,” because it reminded her of home. And she continued to show her love for color in a mint Miu Miu design with fringe detailing at the neckline. The Fred Leighton diamond headband, however, remained a staple.

Amy Adams Oscars 2014

We love Amy Adams, but we really wish she did something different with her hair. (We suppose that’s for a different story.) The actress couldn’t resist slipping out of her structured Gucci Première dark blue gown and into a one-shoulder flowy Carolina Herrera dress for the drinks and dancing portion of the evening.

Finally, we don’t think this black Gucci column gown with an embroidered bodice or the black-and-white Viktor & Rolf gown come close to Anne Hathaway’s ‘Best Oscars Dress of the Last Decade’ title, but we’re curious to see how you vote!
