We know what you’re thinking: Green eyeshadow is tough to wear. We were intimidated at first too! But as turns out, the hue isn’t that tricky to pull off. It’s just all about how you apply it.

“One rule of thumb when wearing a bright color on the eye is to concentrate the depth of the shade on the actual eye lid,” says New York makeup artist Daniel Martin, who created Dianna Agron’s gorgeous eyes at last night’s Whitney Gala in N.Y.C.. “You can gradate the color from there with something lighter going up to the brow bone.”

Martin says he drew inspiration from “a Vogue magazine cover from the early ’60s.” He used all Giorgio Armani products for her look, including Maestro Cream Compact foundation and concealer, which helped make the color on her eyes pop. He chose the Eyes to Kill eyeshadow quad in “Pantelleria.”

“Dianna is wearing only one color out of the palette, but it looks like two different shades [because of how light hits the natural contours of her eye],” Martin explains.

The Glee star wasn’t the only one to go green with her makeup this week. Miley Cyrus matched her eyes to her sparkling Marc Jacobs gown at the Fashion Group International event in N.Y.C. on Tuesday night. She upped the intensity a bit more than Agron by adding green liner underneath. And Georgia May Jagger really pushed the envelope (at Rimmel London’s 180 Years Of Cool Party) with a heavy-shadowed winged eye, that reminds us a bit of Poison Ivy. (Hey, Halloween is coming up!)

Which level of green shadow do you like? Would you try the trend?
