“Obviously she’s a professional,” the shoe designer tells PEOPLE of the supermodel, the new face of his brand. “We did shots of [her wearing] six beautiful shoes, and we only had one retake. That’s not normal — usually you’d be re-doing and re-doing. But her first shot out of the box was perfect.”
Moss’s first task as the face of Stuart Weitzman shoes is fronting the brand’s spring 2013 campaign, recently shot by her friend, famed photographer Mario Testino. “I was quite impressed with the way Mario directed the shoot, and Kate was an amazing executor,” Weitzman says. “He asked her to look a certain way, and she did, to look a different way, and she did. The two of them work so well together.”
In fact, it was Testino who brought Moss to Weitzman; the supermodel saw some ads Testino had shot for the luxe shoe company, and “I won’t say she got jealous,” Weitzman jokes, “but she said, ‘Why don’t you use me?'” The rest is history.
This marks Moss’s first campaign dedicated solely to American-designed shoes — and Weitzman thinks she represents his brand quite well. “There isn’t a Stuart Weitzman woman — I have a lot of muses,” he says. “Among those muses are certainly fashoinistas, celebrities, hip city girls, but also career women, housewives, brides. But I don’t need to have in our ad campaign someone we’re making shoes for, but someone who can show off the product as beautifully as we hope it is.”
