This week, I wanted to go for something that felt easy and playful but still had some structure and weight to hold up to fall’s chilly temps. I went for two shapes that are usually summery, but, here, are made in more substantial materials: a t-shirt and a flippy miniskirt. The H&M shirt is actually made of a thick sweatshirt material — so cozy! It’s beaded and sequined around the neckline which draws the eye up toward your face. I’m a firm believer in using embellishment strategically — really think about where you want to direct attention. Most likely, you wouldn’t buy a shirt that’s just embellished around your stomach (I mean, maybe some people would, but I probably wouldn’t!). I love the elbow-length sleeves — they let you show some skin without looking too summery.
The ASOS Curve mini is made of leather — again, another great fall fabric. I like the subtle pleating and the pretty A-line shape — it’s fitted at the waist and the volume gives me the illusion of hips where I don’t have them! Plus, it shows off my legs. For me, the sweatshirt felt a little short, so I was most comfortable pairing it with a higher-waisted skirt like this. Because the sweatshirt is thicker, I didn’t want to tuck it in, which would have added unnecessary bulk to my midsection. The style is fitted enough that I felt it already showed my shape.
I chose cool cutout Calvin Klein booties (similar style) to go with the fall vibe — but I love that you still get a peek of skin — and the structured Axel clutch (similar style) was perfect for dressing up the sweatshirt. My Forever 21 bracelet (similar style) is adjustable, which is great for wider wrists, and my H&M midi ring (similar style) is a go-to for me (often, finding normal rings that fit my fingers is tricky, so midi rings are a great, trendy alternative!)
Who says you can’t make an easy, girlie look feel super stylish — and look totally flattering? Not me!
