For some of us,
is synonymous with one thing, and one thing only — their annual portfolio of bikini clad models in tropical locales also known as the Swimsuit Issue. But now, the magazine is taking a different direction, rounding up some of the most sartorially savvy ladies and gents in the sports industry to be featured as part of their all new “Fashionable 50” list.

On April 12, SI will unveil their handpicked selection of fashion-forward athletes at an event in NYC. To curate their list of stylish stars, the editors of Sports Illustrated paired up with a team of experts, including professional stylists, fashion executives, fashion journalists from outlets like InStyle and AGlamSlam.com, fashion models and other influencers in the industry. Though the list will feature 50 people, the SI editors will choose 10 and rank them as their fashion MVP finalists. As their Managing Editor Chris Stone explained their decision to feature style-minded athletes, “is, to our mind, an unprecedented cultural event in which sports, long on the leading edge of style, takes center stage in the fashion conversation.”

Whether it’s pioneering the man-ombré (mombré?) or presenting us with the latest in tie-dye onesie fashions, Jared Leto undeniably moves to the beat of his own drum. Which is also exactly what makes him the perfect fit for Carrera Eyewear’s new Maverick campaign. Fellow free spirits are invited to submit a casting tape to Carrera in the hopes of being chosen to star alongside Leto in a special video project taking in place in L.A. The actor said of the campaign, “when I came across the Maverick project I was immediately connected to it as it talks about people that are brave, bold, that take risks, the wild horses, the people that are not afraid to fail, the type of people who have inspired my whole life.”
Keds is working with the MLB to create baseball-inspired sneakers called the Champion Pennant so you can now make your team allegiances loud and clear by sporting them on your feet. The collection features 11 teams, including the Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Phillies, and most importantly (at least to us New Englanders) the Red Sox and Yankees. The collection is available for pre-order on the brand’s site now and officially launches on 4/18. Let the shoe-centric baseball turf wars begin.
Ok, so Kate Spade’s #MissAdventure series isn’t exactly sports-themed, but we would argue going on an excursion of any kind can often be unexpectedly athletically challenging (especially if you live in New York where speed walking your way through tourists should seriously be considered an Olympic sport). For the first episode of their second season, “The Perfect Weekend,” starring Zosia Mamet, Marisa Tomei, Kat Dennings, and Lola Kirke features a girls’ trip gone horribly awry. At least they all look great while everything falls apart?
