Audrina Patridge's Coachella Photo Diary: How to Survive the Three-Day Music Fest in Style

Updated

We always have a ton of questions about Coachella style — how do you know what to pack? What’s with the boots on super-hot days? (You can see all the rest of our pressing Qs here.) Luckily, Audrina Patridge is ready to step in and answer them. The former Hills star (and current host of NBC’s lifestyle and travel show
1st Look
) gave PEOPLE an exclusive peek at her weekend, and shared the rundown on everything from what to bring to the festival to what never to wear. She may have convinced us to put on our own crochet cover up and join her at Coachella next weekend!

Patridge, who attended with sister Casey (right) was understandably excited to arrive, sharing a photo of herself literally jumping for joy at the palm tree-lined entrance. Her Day 1 outfit was a tie-dye backless Blue Life jumpsuit and modern gold-rimmed sunnies. “Anything goes at Coachella — it’s all about fringe, hippie, and rocker mix and match,” she tells PEOPLE. “I make sure to not wear heavy pieces of clothing because it gets super hot. There are so many different styles of bands playing so I just dress cute and comfortable something I can both sit and dance in!”

She also shares that a backpack or fringe purse (she switches it up depending on the outfit) stocked with the essentials is a must to keep you going all day. On her must-pack list in her JustFab backpack: “Sunscreen, chapstick, Physicians Formula powder with SPF, coconut water, Kind bars, buffalo jerky, backpack, a cute blanket to sit on, gum, cell phone charger, Band-Aids and always sunglasses — even for night, in case there’s a sand storm.”

In her beauty bag, she brings Coola’s plumeria-scented sunscreen, Shiseido face sunblock (plus the Physicians Formula SPF powder for touch-ups), Emu Oil SPF chapstick, Neutrogena face wipes, LancĂ´me water proof mascara, Bobbi Brown lipstick, Salma Hayek nail polish and Nars bronzer body oil. She also tosses in a curling iron for those “Coachella waves.”

For Day 2, Patridge stopped by the Bootsy Bellows/McDonald’s pool party, so she wore a bikini-friendly crop top ensemble that included a Camilla animal-print skirt (“I love the long, flowy lightweight skirts”), a Nasty Gal crop top, Von Zipper sunglasses and Just Fab shoes. She also piled on a mix of vintage and Lia Sophia jewelry. “It’s all about the jewelry and for this weekend, the more the better!” she says.

But it wasn’t all about sitting poolside and snacking — Patridge was there for the music too. Who was she excited to see? “AFI, Arcade Fire, Broken Bells, Churches, Chromeo, Zedd, 1975, Naked and Famous, Queens of Stone Age, Muse, The Knife … the list goes on. I’m a music junkie!” she says, laughing.

And while some of those Coachella outfits may look haphazard, Patridge proves that a lot goes into picking and planning. “I make a checklist and I take photos of the outfit I’m going to wear for day and then a night outfit,” she says of her wardrobe MO. “I usually pack a few bathing suits, three daytime outfits and three nighttime outfits. I pack tons of jewelry and different options for shoes.”

Above, Patridge laid out some of her options. From left, she packed a Sparkle and Fade top and Stussy shorts, vintage boots and a Just Fab purse, vintage jewelry and Sunday Somewhere glasses; One Teaspoon overalls and crop top, plus a McFadin purse, the vintage boots again and Vanessa Mooney jewelry (and Leonor Greyl body oil for hydrating after a day in the sun); and a Camilla jumpsuit, Nasty Gal leather bandeau and Shoe Cult heels.

Patridge also gave us a look at what we’re missing — like the giant astronaut that observes the proceedings, lots of cool band photos and a lot of FOMO when it comes to sitting poolside. But above all, she just seemed to be having a ton of fun. “Being at Coachella is a time to let go, dance freely and soak up the sun and music!” she says. OK, consider us sold.
