Some girls have visions of jewelry or coats or computers dancing in their heads this holiday season. Not AnnaSophia Robb. At the top of her wishlist is something considerably more prosaic.

“I want a humidifier,” she told PEOPLE at a Bongo event (she’s the face of the line) in N.Y.C. “I know that sounds lame but it’s so dry here! I bought one but it doesn’t work very well; it’s hard to find a good humidifier!”

And her practicality extends to gift-giving as well. “I always like buying socks as gifts,” she shares. “Probably because I like receiving socks! Right now I’m wearing a pair with little cat on them.”

The star helped Bongo create a life-size gingerbread house while collecting denim to donate to Blue Jeans Go Green, and though the weather in N.Y.C. was frightful, she had her coat to keep her warm. And it also happened to be her favorite recent bargain buy. “The Bongo plaid coat I’m wearing now is super cute and it is only $50. I love it and plan on wearing it all winter,” she said. On the other end of the spectrum, she confessed she’s eyeing a pair of 3.1 Phillip Lim metallic loafers, “but I haven’t made the splurge yet!”

She’s a master of mixing high and low (she’ll pair Bongo jeans with her new favorite Alice + Olivia vest) which is a skill she may have picked up from the Carrie Diaries‘ costume guru, Eric Daman. Robb says to look out for the prom dress she’ll wear in an upcoming episode. “It’s spectacular, a vintage one-of-a-kind dress,” she says. “Eric did a kind of Oscar de la Renta-themed skirt and it’s amazing.”
