Cute Alert! San Diego Zoo Tiger Cubs Make Eye Contact

Posted on

Talk about a real eye-opener!

A pair of 2-week-old Malayan Tiger cubs from the San Diego Zoo opened their eyes for the first time last week, and their eyes seem to tell a tale of wonder.

While this step is an important one in their maturation, the tiger cubs are still unable to see very well, detecting only shadows. They are currently spending time in their den with their mother, 12-year-old Mek Degong, and are expected to make their public debut in a few months.

Found in the forests of the Malay Peninsula (the southern tip of Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia), the Malayan Tiger is an endangered subspecies of tiger, with only 500 of them left in the wild.
