Haylie Duff Follows This One Rule When Cooking for Her 15-Month-Old Daughter Ryan

Updated

Haylie Duff is a cookbook author, actress and host of two shows on the Cooking Channel — including her latest series, Haylie’s America, premiering September 8 — but the role she takes most pride in is being mommy to 15-month-old daughter, Ryan Ava, with fiancé, Matthew Rosenberg.

Her little one’s arrival has sparked plenty of household changes and naturally, that includes in the kitchen. To keep mealtime stress-free, Duff sticks to this one cooking method to keep the entire family happy and full.

“Someone gave me the advice a long time ago to not make separate meals,” she tells PEOPLE, “and to just prepare one meal for your family and to have something your baby can eat too. If you start making separate foods from the beginning, you’ll do that forever. I really have tried to have her eat what we eat and so far, so good.”

Duff also makes sure to keep family meals as diverse as possible to ward off picky eater syndrome — and Ryan is digging in with ease. “She’s a chowhound,” says Duff. “She’s a fantastic little eater. I cook for her constantly. Right now, I make lentils with a ton of vegetables in them almost like a stew, and that’s her favorite thing ever. And the girl loves broccoli! She loves veggies and fruit.”

When the show host is making meals on the set of Haylie’s America, the no-regrets foodie in her takes over again. Each episode of the show — which features guests like Trisha Yearwood, Beverly Mitchell and Alanna Masterson — places Duff in a different state, cooking a different meal, in a different kitchen (if it’s even a kitchen at all). She finds herself in Louisiana deep-frying oysters on the grass shore of Grand Isle and serving up shots with flair bartenders in Las Vegas.

“It was about getting back to feeling like myself again after having Ryan, and realizing that there’s more to myself than just being somebody’s mom,” she says. “The show is just a whole lot of fun. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Still, the actress admits she’d sometimes rather be home “hunkering down in the kitchen and cooking all day and recipe testing” with her daughter likely sitting in her high chair close by. She even hops on red eye flights between episodes so she’s home in time to sneak cream cheese inside Ryan’s breakfast eggs.

“We try to keep as short of shoots as possible,” she says, “because I really don’t like being away from her.”

Haylie’s America premieres Thursday, September 8th at 10 p.m. ET on the Cooking Channel.

Kylie Jenner Shares Lip Kit and Ring Updates (Lucky You)

Updated

Having a great week? This will make it even better. Having a crappy week? Surely this will cheer you up. Kylie Jenner is dropping big news left and right all over her Snapchat, first revealing three new lip kit shades, and then informing the universe that she gave her diamond ring its first bath.

Jenner announced Wednesday that she’ll be adding three new shades to her lip kit collection: Brown Sugar (a sandy brown shade which is much paler than True Brown K), Love Bite (a deep brownish purple) and Dirty Peach (a rusty dark apricot).

To model her new shades, the star went far beyond just posting photos of herself wearing them. She enlisted her friends — Jordyn Woods, Justine Skye and Stassie — to pose wearing each color in what seems to be minimal clothing.

After her big announcement, the star also shared that she had her huge diamond ring — a gift from boyfriend Tyga that she sometimes wears on her left ring finger but is not her engagement ring so don’t get it twisted — cleaned for the very first time.

“So, I got my ring cleaned for the first time since I actually got it, and that s–t must have been dirty as f–k because I forgot how sparkly,” she said in the video, in which she shared a rare up-close video of the sparkler, giving us a good long look at it while refusing to confirm whether it means anything.

Reba McEntire Reveals the One Diet That Worked for Her: It’s ‘the Slimmest I Ever Was’

Updated

Reba McEntire has always stayed in great shape, but it doesn’t come without some discipline.

“I have to watch what I eat and exercise and cut back,” the 61-year-old country legend tells PEOPLE, highlighting one particular diet that’s worked best for her. “In the early ’90s, I was on Fit for Life. That’s the slimmest I ever was,” she says.

The basic principles of the plan are simple: “Don’t mix your carbs and protein,” she says. “Stay off sugar. Anything white, just stay off. But not mixing carbs and proteins seemed to work really well. Instead of having potatoes and steak, just have steak and vegetables. If you’re going to have carbs, then have our carbs with vegetables.”

Though McEntire doesn’t follow any strict diet anymore, she maintains a more manageable approach to staying fit — and isn’t afraid to indulge every now and then. “Portion control works best for me now,” she says, adding, “I do like to go on vacations and that’s when I really splurge. I love Mexican food — chips, salsa and guacamole. And then chicken enchiladas and a really neat dessert. That’s my cheat day.”

These days, though, the singer has been most focused on her work, recently announcing her new home collection, Rockin’ R by Reba — available at Cracker Barrel locations nationwide — and an upcoming acoustic holiday album, My Kind of Christmas, which will also be sold at the restaurant chain starting September 2.

So how does this new partnership with the comfort food eatery factor in to her dietary habits? “It’s feel-good food,” she says. “Probably a place you go when you’re on a diet, but I always find something to eat there no matter what my weight level. If I’m doing really good, I can have the chicken and dumplings, and if not, I’ll have the veggie plate.”

When she’s not working on her multitude of business ventures, she plays the role of grandmother to the children of Kelly Clarkson and her husband Brandon Blackstock, the son of McEntire’s ex-husband Narvel Blackstock. “The kids are just growing up a storm,” she says of River Rose, 2, and Remington, 4 months. “Kelly’s kicking back into the music business after having [the baby], and Brandon manages her. They’re all busy and loving life.”

This Is the One Place Aly Raisman Is Dying to Take Taylor Swift Shopping

Posted on

Now that Aly Raisman is done dominating in Rio (she brought home one gold and two silver medals), she’s enjoying post-Olympics stardom, hanging out with celebs like Usher, Zac Efron and even agreeing to a date with Raiders tight end Colton Underwood. What’s next? Hopefully a shopping date with Taylor Swift.

After the Final Five crushed the team competition and came away with gold, Swift posted a big congrats to the girls on Twitter.

Raisman came right back and responded to the “22” singer suggesting the two should hit the streets in her hometown of Boston for a shopping spree once she returned from Rio.

But where’s the spot Raisman would love to take one of her favorite singers? “I would say in Boston on Newbury Street, there’s a lot of good shopping,” she told PeopleStyle Wednesday at an event for Aéropostale’s Seriously Stretchy Denim line, of which she’s the face.

And the one thing she can’t wait to splurge on to reward herself for Olympic dominance? “I love ankle booties and tote bags!”

The six-time Olympic medalist could probably give Swift a run for her money when it comes to style.

Raisman says she would love to start her own fashion line one day inspired by her gymnastics career with a mixture of athletic and everyday apparel.

“I love fashion and designing stuff. I would love to get into workout clothes,” she said. “I work a lot with the younger generation of gymnasts, so I know a lot of stuff that they like. It would be fun to design clothes for them.”

Her ideal line would also pull inspiration from her day-to-day personal style — outside the gym.

“I like jeans you can wear in the day. Right now I’m wearing [these] with flats, but then for dinner you can go and wear them with heels, so it’s kind of like the daytime to nighttime sort of feel,” she said.

Raisman’s no stranger to the design world, as the Olympian already has her own leotard line with GK Elite and sock line with Feat Socks. (We’re loving these patriotic ones she made in honor of the Olympics!)

On the beauty side, she’s leaving her famous competition top-knot bun behind (for now) and playing around with wearing her hair down.

“I like messy, go-with-the-flow [style], so that’s how I like my hair to be too,” she said.

Her go-to products: Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo and No Frizz Nourishing Oil.

“If I get out of the shower and [my hair] is a little frizzy, I will use the oil. It’s really good because even though it’s an oil, it doesn’t make your hair greasy for the rest of the day,” she said. “Then I just flip my hair and put the [dry shampoo] in. It’s awesome.”

Kendall Jenner Talks About That Pre-Vogue Cover Shoot Haircut

Updated

While there may have been some debate in the past as to the legitimacy of Kendall Jenner‘s claim to the title of full-blown supermodel, after securing her first official Vogue cover (and for the coveted September issue no less) there can be no denying that the reality star has officially made it as a professional poser. And on Wednesday night, the catwalk phenomenon went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss everything that went on behind the scenes to make this major cover shoot happen.

Hailey Baldwin: My Dad Stephen Does Not Love My Booty Shorts

Posted on

Model, Insta-famous star and new Ugg ambassador Hailey Baldwin loves to show some leg in a seemingly endless collection of booty shorts — and her 7.1 million followers on Instagram can’t get enough. Two people who wouldn’t mind seeing a little less skin? Her dad, actor Stephen Baldwin, and mom, Kennya.

“My dad is the one who will pull me aside and be like, ‘You do know that I will get my ass on a plane anywhere and drag you anywhere out by your hair if I feel so necessary?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes, I understand,” the 19-year-old jokes. “But usually he minds his own business, which is cool.”

Happy Fathers Day Daddio. Wish I could be with you today ❤️

A photo posted by Hailey Baldwin (@haileybaldwin) on

Her mom is actually a little more intense, she admits. “My mom’s the one who pays way more attention,” says Baldwin. “She will be like, ‘So, I saw this photo of you and what’s up with that?’ Or, ‘I saw this photo of this person, you know why is she doing this?’ I’m like, ‘Why are you even Googling this? How did you even see that?'”

When it comes to booty shorts specifically, like the ones in her brand new Ugg campaign and the ones seen on Instagram (below), she says, “I’ve probably worn them and been yelled at by my parents for being seen in them.” As for how to pick the right pair? “I think there’s that fine line of how much is coming out of the bottom of the shorts, so maybe don’t wear ones that are too high-cut at the back,” she suggests.

Overall, her goal in dressing, which she does with the help of stylist Maeve Reilly, is to look approachable. “I just want to be relatable, but that’s not a forced thing, it’s just by staying who I am,” she says. “I don’t ever want people to think it’s any type of façade or put on cause it’s really the way I behave on camera and off camera is really just me.”

“I just think I hope that when people look at me and they look at what I do, they realize that I am quite simple,” she continues. “I stay very true, hopefully, to who I am and what I represent and family. I don’t ever want people to look at me and be like, ‘Oh, her lifestyle or what she wears or what she does is so unattainable.’ I like to be relatable to people because that’s just normal.”

So, that begs the questions: Can you relate to her love of booty shorts? Let us know in the comments below.

See How Body-Positive Blogger Katie Sturino Styles a Maxi Dress Like Her Favorite Celebrities

Updated

12ish Style founder and curvy model Katie Sturino knows how frustrating it can be to get dressed in the summer — especially when it comes to flimsy fabrics and skimpy straps. But because there’s no trend that she won’t try, Sturino is here to prove that maxi dresses are a total yes, no matter your size. Watch the video above from her series, “Supersize It” to see how she takes one of her favorite celebrity fashion trends and makes it a staple in her own everyday wardrobe.

“Don’t be scared of a full-length situation with a maxi dress,” Sturino advises, adding, “it’s going to give you an instantly polished look, and you’re going to look like you’re coming off of an island photo shoot. Plus, it’s really easy to wear Spanx underneath for thigh chafe.”

Sturino paired her style with a chunky low heel to dress it up. But instead of wearing a belt, she let the dress fall loose for summer comfort. And if you’re worried about a lack of support up top, Sturino assures you that it’s possible to still achieve it by going for a dress that’s one size smaller than what you’d usually wear.
